Provence Day 2 Avignon, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
An absolute quality days riding.. very pleased with my climbing performance - my highest ever climb !
And the descent was brilliant.. I was last to leave after the lunch stop so sat on the wheel of Paul the tour guide, as he weaved down the twists and turns.
You can see Mont Ventoux in the background - or should I say orbit - in a couple of the photos. It looks daunting so still significantly more climbing to do !
I took a detour at the end of ride to visit Clos Saint-Jean and Pegau vineyards. I even had a private tour of the Clos Saint-Jean from wine maker Jean.. once he realised I had several of his wines in-bond from my Gauntley’s website days !

Enjoying a glass of Clos St Jean 2009 Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Wine Critic tasting note: (2009 vintage) "Opulent in texture and already great in the glass, the wine is packed with an array of fresh cherries, herbs, pepper, garrigue and black raspberries. This luscious wine is fresh, clean and delicious."
My Tasting note: bloody gorgeous !
